Some of the ideas/topics/events we have been discussing
at recent meetings: (last updated - april 14th)
Police brutality - information table (being rescheduled?).
Over the past couple of weeks, the topics of police brutality and racial profiling have come up
in our discussions. Some major news stories recently: An unarmed Haitian man was murdered by an
undercover police officer when he refused to buy drugs from one of the four undercover officers
involved in the situation. This is the fourth murder by a NYC police officer in the past thirteen
months. Locally, there have been two deaths recently involving Peoria City police officers. (More
information on these stories will be included soon on the news page.) This tuesday (if all things
go according to plans), we will be running a table outside of Bradley Hall to provide students with
more information on police brutality. We will also have information on our rights involving police
confrontations. If you want to help, email BPN.
Minority Inventors exhibit. We are organizing a display (to be held in the
library) on "uncredited inventors". Included will be mostly minority and woman
inventors who have received little to no credit or attention for their contributions
to our society. Contact Craig Jackson if you want to help out:

Earth Day info table. Earth Day is Saturday, April 22nd. SEAC is holding an
event on Olin Quad for Earth Day. BPN will have a booth along with many other student organizations
including the Bradley Animal Rights Team and Spectrum. So far, it looks like we will be presenting
information on corporations and their misuse and abuse of the environment. One target corporation is
Peoria's very own Caterpillar. CAT machines have been found in the places of rainforest destruction
and deforestation. If you want to find out more about Caterpillar's support of rainforest destruction,
check out < www.corpwatch.org >
Benefit Show. We need money. No, really, we have extremely limited funds
(nothing) and we need basic things like photocopies and other supplies for our projects and events
we want to put on. We will be organizing a benefit show on May 12th & 13th to raise money.
No admission charge, but donations will be taken.
Bands slated to play: Velouria Beat, Girl Named Megan, TxRx, Died At Birth, and Systematic Attribution.
Location: The Hall of Justice - 1613 W. Aryes St., Peoria.
If you would like to play this show, please email
Geoff. thanks.
Poster. The "socially progressive" organizations on campus will be
coming together to design a poster. The purpose will primarily be to expose the organizations
to students and show them who we are and what we do. Some of the organizations to be included:
Bradley Peace Network, Bradley Animal Rights Team, Common Ground, SEAC, and WomenSpace.
