Bylaws of the Bradley University Chapter of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society

Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be Chemistry Club, Bradley University Chapter of Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society.

Article II. Objectives
The objectives of this chapter shall be to afford an opportunity for undergraduate students of a chemical science to obtain experience in preparing and presenting technical material before chemical audiences, to foster a professional spirit among members, to instill a professional pride in the chemical sciences, and to foster an awareness of the responsibilities and challenges of the modern chemist.

Article III. Membership
The membership of this organization shall be composed of chemistry and chemistry related majors and minors. Membership in Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society is strongly encouraged. Chapter members who are not ACS Student Affiliates are granted voting rights.

Article IV. Officers
The officers of this organization shall be a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Publicity Chair, and a Freshman Representative, who shall constitute the Executive Committee. Joint positions may be appointed. The officers shall be elected during the Chemistry Department Spring Picnic from nominees chosen from the floor. They shall take office in May and hold office for one year or until their successors are duly elected. The only exception is the Freshman Representative, who will be elected from nominees by October 1 of the current school year from the floor.

Article V. Duties of Officers
The duties of the officers of the Executive Committee are as follows. The President shall preside over meetings, relay messages from faculty and ACS to the club, recruit new members, send out emails to chemistry majors about the club, promote correspondence between officers, keep an updated list of the chemistry major’s emails, and organize a freshman mentoring program. The Vice President shall preside over meetings in the absence of the President, act as a committee chair for ad hoc committees, and head all philanthropic fund raisers. The Secretary shall record minutes at meetings as well as an attendance sheet, keep a list of improvements and activities for the following year, maintain an organized record for all club activities, and handle any personal correspondence, such as thank you cards and memos. The Treasurer shall keep detailed records of all money transactions and be the liaison between the club, the department secretary and the Bradley bank account and handle applications for grants or other funding. The Publicity Chair shall send out announcements via email about specific activities, keep updated lists of available drivers, make and keep track of sign up sheet for activities and handle any publicity for activities and events. The Freshman Representative shall recruit and encourage underclassman to join the club, communicate with current underclassmen members, focus on member retention, and observe the processes of the Executive Committee members with the intention of holding higher office in the future. The responsibility of Webmaster, which encompasses the maintenance and design of the club website, will roam to whichever officer is most capable.

Article VI. Faculty Advisor
The faculty advisor of the Chapter shall be a faculty member who is a member of the American Chemical Society, who volunteers to advise the Chapter both in its local activities and in its relations with the Society. The Advisor shall be kept informed of all Chapter activities and shall advise the Chapter on any policy matters.

Article VII. Meetings
Regular meetings are subject to change each semester. Special events may be arranged through the Executive committee. There shall be at least four activities per year.

Article VII. Dues
The annual national dues of the Student Affiliates shall be sent individually to the Society. There are no local dues for the Chapter.

Article IX. Annual Reports
The annual report shall be completed jointly by the Executive Committee. Preparation for the report shall begin at the start of the spring semester.

These Bylaws may be amended by the Executive Committee, provided that the amendments shall have been proposed at least one meeting previous to the time of voting. Such amendments shall conform to the ACS regulations established for Student Affiliates Chapters and the rules and regulations established by Bradley University.
