Karatedo Doshinkan is a traditional Okinawan martial art. Doshinkan focuses on the non-competitive aspects of a martial art. Therefore, instead of encouraging students to compete with each other, Doshinkan classes create a learning atmosphere that encourages members to compete only against themselves -- to focus on their own strengths and weaknesses. To accomplish this, our classes focus primarily on repetition of hard and soft techniques, kata (a series of techniques in a specific order), and controlled partner training.

Students of Karatedo Doshinkan have the rare opportunity to study karatedo with a true master of the art, Hanshi 10.Dan Nobuo Ichikawa. He holds both the highest belt rank, tenth degree black belt, and the highest title, Hanshi, that one can obtain in a traditional karatedo. Hanshi offers many opportunties for all Doshinkan members to train with him. He leads classes at the headquarters dojo for Karatedo Doshinkan in Vienna, Austria. He also regularly travels around the world to different Doshinkan dojos to lead classes. For example, Hanshi usually travels to the United States once or twice each year to hold special trainings. In addition, he offers at least one special international training each year. In recent years, international trainings have taken place in Germany, Hawaii, Hungary, Japan, and Mexico.

Karatedo Doshinkan classes at Bradley University are led by Sensei 4.Dan James Farruggio. For further information about the classes contact Sensei Farruggio.
