Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to partner with developing communities to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economical engineering projects”. Its projects are driven by engineering students and engineering professionals who are excited to participate in the global community and contribute in meaningful and long lasting ways to the developing world. The host community works side by side with members of EWB on the projects which they themselves initiate. Projects include building potable water systems, sustainable energy systems, and road improvements.

The Bradley University chapter was re-established this year and already our membership base is strong. They represent freshman through senior engineering students in the electrical, mechanical, civil, industrial, construction, and manufacturing. Everyone involved has a strong passion for helping others through sustainable solutions and improving practical engineering skills. The group is open to students of any major, from engineering to nursing, accounting etc. This organization has been well received on campus.
The Bradley EWB chapter has joined with the Peoria Heart of Illinois professional chapter for an initial joint project. As this is the first project for either chapter, it is an exciting time to get involved with the cause. We would like to thank the members of the professional chapter for sharing their time and expertise with us on this joint venture. In addition, members of the Bradley University engineering faculty have offered their time to help with and advise our student chapter. Each chapter is required to raise funds to carry out its own project. Estimated project costs are anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000 and include travel and living expenses for the team, as well as any materials needed. A Technical Advisory Committee reviews the technical, cultural and health aspects of a project before a chapter travels to the site in order to provide quality control on EWB-USA projects.
