In this game you play as a changling, wraith, vampire, werewolf, or mage. Usually in a world of darkness game revolves around one of these games, most often vampire, but in this game it is more focused a differant world, one of mages, changelings, and wriaths. Yes I will let you play a vampire, and yes some plots do involve much about vampires, but usually I will expose you to something differant. The game takes place in chicago, but in an areas of the city and suburbs that are generally considered to be more occupied by wraiths, changelings, and mages.
This is a horror game by Palladium Books (makers of Rifts) that allows for all kinds of supernatural monsters and ghosts and such, and provides listings of quite a few in the book. The PCs fall into one of nine categories of supernatural characters, like the parapsychologist, the mage/arcanist, the psychic healer, et cetera.
The campaign is something the GM has done in the past that has worked well, but its major disadvantage is that it is very limited in the number of players. The GM has found that the main plot of the X-Files translates very well into an RPG. Two FBI agents are assigned to investigate a different supernatural phenomena every episode/game, and government cover-up along the way makes things more mysterious. (However, for the X-Files game, The GM ditches the idea that the player characters are supernatural themselves. FBI agents are physically fit and have above-average intelligence, not to mention well armed and trained, and don't need psychic or magic powers in addition. In the past that has led to the players relying way too much on their powers and not their characters' "real" skills and abilities.)
The GM would like to play one to three games of this, each with two players. If we get several going, we can rotate partners so that each case brings someone new with whom to work. If you'd rather all play as a group, another possibility is having the characters play as a BTS version of "Ghostbusters." (The team would be led by a parapsychologist and would have at least one psy-mechanic in it, for those of you who know the BTS PCCs already.) This can also be fun.
