Mission: Pi Lambda Theta is an international honor society and professional association in education. Our mission is to honor and inspire outstanding educators to be effective leaders who address critical issues in education. As an honor society, its purpose is to recognize persons of superior scholastic achievement and high potential for professional leadership. As a professional association, its purpose is to stimulate independent-thinking educators who can ask critical questions to improve educational decision-making.
History: Pi Lambda Theta was organized in 1910 at the University of Missouri at Columbia. Seven years later, educational honoraries from six other universities joined Pi Lambda Theta from a national association to advance education as a profession. More than 145,000 men and women have been initiated into Pi Lambda Theta since its founding. Today, the association has more than 100 chapters throughout the United States and the Philippines. Members of Pi Lambda Theta can be found in all 50 states and in many countries throughout the world.
