Committee Reports:
Recruitment and Relations Committee:
- Carl is acting First Officer (for now).
- We recruited approximately 29 new people at the fair.
- Since Ryan is both new and an alum, David covers both bases at a stroke!
- We actually have new business for this committee! Wow!
- It is decided that we should order pizza for next week's newcomers.
- The Comm Officer estimates we'll need "400 gallons of pizza."
- The motion is made that there be "surprise pizza days."
- It is recommended that there be no Romulan ale next meeting (remember last year...).
- As Little Caesar's has a Wednesday night offer of $4 per medium pizza, no limit, we'll most likely get some from there.
- After strenuous debate, the ironclad pizza list (subject to change at any time) consists of the following: 2 cheese, 2 pepperoni, 2 sausage, 1 supreme, and 1 Canadian bacon and pineapple, for a total of 8 pizzas.
- The Comm Officer will bring celery for anyone who wants a veggie pizza.
- Specific disorder ensues about pizza matters.
- Someone needs to call David to remind him to bring the pizzas next Wednesday.
- Joel F. and Julie will get the soda.
- This shall constitute the end of active recruiting until the premiere of Enterprise.
Movie Committee:
- The T-Shirt and Movie Committees will be dealt with next week.
No Report Committee:
- The No Report and CCG/Mudwrestling Committees are on hiatus until further notice. {See below in New Business.}
- The motion is made to form a Committee on Committees.
Officers' Reports:
Communications Officer:
- The minutes from the last two meetings from last semester are up on the web. Anyone who wants them in email can contact the Comm Officer.
- The mailing list has been updated for current members; the new email addresses collected from the activities fair will be added by next week.
- The Bradley website will begin massive updating as soon as the officers for this semester are firmly determined.
- Anti-Joel has requested to the Comm Officer that a special project be initiated to compile a list of all the random utterances made at the start and end of meetings for the past few semesters. This list will be compiled as soon as the Comm Officer feels like it.
Constable:
- "Halt! Security!"
- Everything's under control.
Grand Nagus:
- Amy is not returning, so we'll elect a new nagus tonight.
- Don't worry; Julie has the treasury in good keeping.
Chief of Operations:
- The new Enterprise section of the Psi Phi website (http://enterprise.psiphi.org) will be "officially" up soon.
- The main website is currently getting 1.25 million hits a month! Woohoo!
- The money from the last quarter from amazon.com (almost $100) will also be coming soon.
- Joel remarks that every time we get food, we get money. Conclusion: get more food!
First Officer:
- No report, as we won't have a first officer until next week.
Captain:
- Chris K. sings "Letters", with Ryan providing backup.
- Mail:
- Propaganda for Volunteer Vibe
- A letter from the Burger Center
- Bulk propaganda in the form of a voluteer directory
Old Business:
- The club decides to hold new elections for grand nagus tonight.
- Ryan nominates himself. Joel O. nominates Joel F. David nominates Aaron. Carl nominates himself. All nominations are seconded by somebody.
- Votes are recorded as follows: Ryan gets 1 vote, Joel gets 4, Aaron gets 2, and Carl gets 1, with 2 abstentions. Joel wins.
- Anti-Joel remarks, "If you embezzle, we'll ship you to Maryland."
- The Psi Phi bapper is being detained by the Comm Officer, since his memory is not great.
- The TV movie "Legend of the Rangers" is scheduled for January airing. The Sci Fi Channel will then decide whether to pursue a series for it.
New Business:
- Adam is declared wrong, just for old times' sake.
- The motion to reinstate the No Report Committee passes 6-4. Nominations are taken for a chairperson.
- David nominates Marisa, and Chris J. nominates both Carl and Anti-Joel.
- Voting is as follows: Anti-Joel gets 4 votes, Marisa gets 1, Carl gets 0, with 4 abstentions, and 1 double-abstention. Anti-Joel is the new chairman.
Scifi News:
- David has the four books from the Section 31 series. Each book is centered on one Star Trek show:
- TNG: Rogue, by Andy Mangels and Michael A. Martin
- VOY: Shadow, by Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch
- TOS: Cloak, by S.D. Perry
- DS9: Abyss, by David Weddle and Jeffrey Lang. Incidentally, David Weddle co-wrote the DS9 episode that introduced Section 31.
- Also, the first two books in the Buffy/Angel crossover trilogy are now available: Unseen: The Burning, and Door to Alternity, both written by Nancy Holder and Jeff Mariotte.
- Books 1 and 2 of the 7-part ST: Gateways series, One Small Step by Susan Wright, and Chainmail by Diane Carey, are out now.
- ST: Communicator and Starburst magazines currently contain lots of data on the new Enterprise series, and TV Guide has put out 3 collector's covers for the show this week.
- The September issue of Cable Guide magazine has lots of info on various sci-fi leading men.
- The last comic book in the ST: "Divided We Fall" DS9/TNG crossover series is now available. It was written by John J. Ordover and David Mack.
- ST: The Eugenics Wars, Book 1, by Greg Cox, is out now. It deals with the life of Khan.
- Heresy: Book 1, by Anselm Audley, is also out now. It's a fantasy trilogy that David got for free, so he's plugging it.
- Peter David's long-awaited Sir Apropos of Nothing is now available. Weighing in at a hefty 504 pages, it's his first fantasy in a long while.
- It's official (sorta): Star Wars Episode 2 is titled "Attack of the Clones."
- Many nifty new book covers are up on the website, www.psiphi.org.
- There is a possibility of a Roswell/Enterprise crossover! The story now is that a Roswell character will have to go to Paramount Studios undercover, and auditions for a part in Enterprise.
- Buffy's 2-hour series premiere will air October 2, at 7 pm on UPN.
- The first five scripts for Enterprise are up at enterprise.psiphi.org, for all you spoiler-lovers. Enterprise premieres September 26 at 7 pm on UPN.
- UPN will rerun the two-hour Voyager series finale on September 19 at 7 pm.
- Marisa went to the Wizard World comic book convention, and reported that new CCGs to be unveiled later this year include the Harry Potter CCG and the Lord of the Rings CCG.
- The Captain remarks that "Attack of the Clones" sounds like the stupidest title ever for a Star Wars movie.
- Debate ensues on whether SW is "pulp" or "ugh." Debate also ensues on whether or not Jar-Jar Binks is dead.
- Chris K. and Carl bap each other.
- TNG reruns being airing October 1 on TNN. The WWF's Vince McMahon is supposed to do a Star Trek-themed episode of Raw Is War to celebrate.
