Committee Reports:
Recruitment and Relations Committee:
- No report.
- Laura is here tonight because Joel joined Ambassadors.
T-Shirt Committee:
- We decide to assume that Psi Phi West at Arizona State said "OK" to our suggested T-shirt design, subject to their actual approval.
- The current design has the Psi Phi logo and "Hug me! I'm a sci-fi geek!" on the front, and "Better geek than greek" on the back.
- The motion is made that we altogether abandon the idea of making t-shirts.
Movie Committee:
- There was a movie last Sunday, namely, Dune. Five people showed up and made fun of it all the way through it.
- There will be another movie, and we may even watch it this time.
Quiz Bowl Committee:
- The Quiz Bowl people met, played Trivial Pursuit, had pizza, and went home.
- There should be more people next week.
Versailles Committee:
Shack-a-Thon Committee:
- The Shack-a-Thon is still set for Wednesday, November 14, starting at 4 pm and going through 4 pm Thursday the 15th.
- There will be free hot chocolate, because it should be pretty cold.
- We need volunteer builders and shackers, since we'll be building a shack.
- Lyz will bring a sign-up sheet next week. Anyone with a shack design can give it to Lyz.
- The results of an informal straw poll indicate that three members present are engineering majors.
No Report Committee:
- Tonight the club has a choice of reports: either a quotation from "The Worldly Philosophers," or a taunting of two of the officers. The club overwhelmingly selects the latter.
- Japan beat the Americans without a fleet battle!
- Russia did not fall (because it was never involved in the war).
- No report.
Officers' Reports:
Communications Officer:
- The Comm Officer raves at length about how the minutes are still not up, and for once it is not his fault.
- Chris A. reports that the miniatures from the Lord of the Rings are due out next week.
Constable:
- "Kill them with swords, kill them with lances and spears, kill them with the bolts of your crossbows. Kill their warriors, kill their women and their children, their elderly and their sick. Kill their hounds, cattle and their livestock. But above all, kill with pleasure." --Rulebook of Warhammer, 6th edition
- Everything's under control.
Grand Nagus:
- The current balance is $386.00, after subtracting $14.59 for food for the movie this past Sunday.
- The Nagus rants about how he, a business major, is still prohibited from taking business courses.
Chief of Operations:
First Officer:
- No report, due to the absence of the First Officer. Said absence shall be considered "conspicuous" until an investigation is concluded. {No, we're not appointing an independent counsel.}
Captain:
- "Letters" is sung.
- Mail:
- We have been sent the mysterious Book of the Hands for Studentia Organizationdum. This tome shall be stored in the Psi Phi Office until such time as we can figure out what to do with it.
- The section on conducting car washes is read aloud. It mentions a shammy, and David immediately asks, "Is that the super-shammy?"
- Specific disorder ensues about Marisa's scepter.
- Propaganda from the ACBU regarding this year's Homecoming, entitled "Passport to Paradise."
- The letter talks about Flamingos on Parade, and comes with an entry form for the parade and nomination forms for Homecoming King and Queen.
- A letter from the International Affairs Organization, promoting a lecture by Dr. Jeremiah Sullivan on Wednesday, November 7 at 7 pm in Neumiller Hall.
- Stuff for the BU Dance Marathon
- Propaganda for Aplha Chi Omega's euchre tourney
- A flyer from Volunteer Vibe
New Business:
- The question of what to do about the Nagus is asked and debated.
- The Nagus is out of the room for much of the following, ascertaining the status of tonight's Yankees/Diamondbacks game. (Honestly, we didn't plan it that way...)
- It is decided that anytime a majority of present members vote that the current Nagus (or anybody else) is guilty of "misappropriation of funds" (meaning using Psi Phi money for any purposes other than those specifically voted on and approved by Psi Phi, under normal voting procedures) or an equivalent, the Nagus or other offending member will be beaten, either to a state of silliness or of senselessness, depending on the mood of the club at the time.
- The Comm Officer suggested the above motion, and he notes how it takes a difficult legal problem and deftly removes its resolution to the political sphere of influence.
- Chris A. volunteers to be put on the Sitting-In-Front-Of-The-Door Committee, to keep the Nagus out until deliberations on the above are complete.
- Also, Chris A. regales us with tales of the new "Thriller" music video with Michael Jackson. It involves Michael pulling skin off his head and summoning ancestral ghosts, who then dance for 28 minutes.
- The motion is made to beat the Nagus, who has returned, for misappropriation of funds. The motion passes 10-2, with 4 abstentions and 1 courteous abstention.
- However, the Nagus is not beaten, because members were unsure of exactly which motion for which they were voting. (Recount! Recount!)
Scifi News:
- Starship Spotter is a new book out Tuesday, with lots of nifty, full-color pictures.
- The airdate for the B5 Legend of the Rangers TV movie on the Sci Fi Channel has been moved to Saturday, January 19.
- The first Star Wars Episode II teaser is appearing ahead of the movie Monsters, Inc.
- John de Lancie guest-starred in tonight's episode of Special Unit 2 on UPN. His character had no name and was slightly scalpless.
- Iron Chef USA, a one-hour special (the first of two filmed) hosted by William Shatner (urk!), will air on UPN on Friday, November 16.
- Production on ST: Nemesis has been delayed, without being rescheduled yet, to make revisions to the storyline. Generally speaking, damage to some race's government building might be cut, in light of recent events.
- A good comic strip from October 29 dealing with the Lord of the Rings can be seen at www.foxtrot.com.
- The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror XII will be airing next Tuesday at 7:30 on FOX.
- The revised ST:TMP is due out on DVD next Tuesday; the revised movie has been rated PG, up a notch from the G of the original.
- Buffy: The Musical will air next Tuesday at 7 on the WB.
- Tonight's episode of Enterprise had some "technical difficulties." First there was no audio, then there was audio from Dawson's Creek on the WB, and then there was static. Hopefully the problems will be fixed for Saturday's repeat at 6.
- Chris A. bribes the Comm Officer with Krazy String to put him in the minutes. {It worked.} "Christopher Allen" gets to be in the minutes.
Adjournment: 11:03 (oogie-boogie-boogie)(fishsticks){general rendition of "Fishheads, Fishheads"}pm
