- The club mulls over whether Marisa should be the Psi Phi rugby/soccer team for ARH Diversity Week.
Committee Reports:
Recruitment and Relations Committee:
T-Shirt Committee:
- The T-Shirt Committee will send out information about cost of shirts to everyone via email before people leave for break.
Movie Committee:
Quiz Bowl Committee:
- Psi Phi members now officially hold a controlling interest in this club. {That's one Bradley organization down, only about three hundred more to go.}
Versailles Committee:
- Chris A. delivers tonight's report in Welsh: "The French [item deleted for security reasons]."
Shack-a-Thon Committee:
- Anti-Joel delivers the report by proxy.
- Our first attempt at running a shack went well. Someone was in the shack for almost the entire time. It was good.
- The recommendation is made that the committee be "disbarred and dismembered."
- The Shack-a-Thon Committee is hereby dissolved.
Party Committee:
- Room Subcommittee:
- Bryce called the appropriate person to reserve the U-Hall basement and left a message. He hasn't gotten the room confirmed yet, but it won't be too long.
- Since Bryce is the only one who lives in U-Hall, he'll be responsible for smuggling the rest of us inside.
- Julie agrees to help Bryce move his 14" TV into the basement, while Carl agrees to bring his VCR.
- It is noted that in theory, we have access to many, many DVD players. In theory.
- Fred might maybe possibly be able to attempt to try to bring a DVD player.
- Movie Subcommittee:
- Movies nominated for the party include the following: ST:TMP (DVD); Cube; Dune (the SFC spec. ed. DVD); Beastmaster; Femalien; Dogma (the spec. ed. DVD); The Hobbit; Evil Dead 2; Army of Darkness; Unbreakable (DVD); It; The Rocky Horror Picture Show; Spaceballs; Thumb Wars; and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (DVD).
- All members present get to vote for two movies. The votes are made orally one at a time, and are recorded by the Chief of Operations.
- The movies we will watch at the party will be the following:
- The Hobbit (7 votes)
- Femalien (6 votes)
- Army of Darkness (6 votes)
- Cube (4 votes)
- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (DVD) (4 votes)
- We will probably only watch one of the last two movies, the other acting as a substitute if we need it.
- Food Subcommittee
- It is decided that we'll just get a sub sandwich and whatever types of pizza we got last year.
- The Nagus and the Constable are put in charge of acquiring food.
No Report Committee:
- There will be a day of war-gaming on Study Day afternoon in the MCS office. A really big Axis and Aliies map will be used. Come kill your brain!
- The report begins, "If Brest is under Free French control..." and sort of spirals off from there.
- No report.
Officers' Reports:
Communications Officer:
- Marisa has been ousted from her chair yet again.
- The minutes from last week are up.
- Everyone "oohs" at cj's Lord of the Rings TCG starter deck. Scattered "aahs" follow.
Constable:
- This week's HIS 326 report: "In a dictatorship, you don't have to give a damn what anyone else says. You just have to figure out what's best for you."
- "By G'Quan, I can't remember the last time I was in a fight like that. No moral ambiguity, no hopeless battle against ancient and ocverwhelming forces. *They* were the bad guys, as you say, we were the good guys. And they made a very satisfying *thump* when they hit the floor!" --G'Kar, "A Late Delivery From Avalon"
- Everything's under control.
Grand Nagus:
- The current balance is $464.24.
- In the spirit of the holiday season, the Nagus announces that he is donating a penny from the Psi Phi treasury to our colleagues at Arizona State. When David, the natural conduit for such a transaction, asks for the penny, the Nagus becomes nervous and flustered.
Chief of Operations:
- The number of hits registering on the enterprise.psiphi.org website has gone up by twenty percent from October to November. Woohoo!
First Officer:
- No report; the First Officer is off studying again.
Captain:
- "No Letters" is sung, since we have no letters.
- MCS sure got a lot of mail, though, most of which is outdated and as such has been filed away in the appropriate cylindrical container.
Old Business:
- Regarding last week's flamingo vote, it is revealed that Carl has sent a proxy vote for buying a flamingo with the Nagus, who forgot to report it.
- This would change the outcome of the vote to 6-5 in favor of buying a flamingo, with 6 abstentions.
- The motion to revote on the measure is made and passed.
- The new motion to buy a flamingo for Homecoming passes 6-5, with 5 abstentions.
- At first it seems we get one, but then people start changing their votes and voting for absent members. {One wonders if the ghost of Richard J. Daley was in the room...}
- So the Captain steps in and puts all to rights. By Captain's Order, we are getting a flamingo.
- Specific disorder ensues.
New Business:
- We need nominations for officer elections at the party. Nominations made include the following:
- Chris K. nominates all incumbents for their respective offices.
- Carl is nominated for all offices.
- Chris A. nominates himself for all offices and Grand Inquisitor.
- [Item deleted from minutes at special request.]
- Aaron is nominated for treasurer.
- Sean nominates himself for Minister of War. He also wants to know if we can declare war on his roommate.
Scifi News:
- {Note: Many thanks to David who provided a copy of this week's Scifi News for the Comm Officer, so he wouldn't go crazy trying to write it all down.}
- The Love Trek convention in Champaign, IL, this school year will take place on February 9-10.
- Special guests will include Garrett Wang (VOY's Harry Kim), James Darren (DS9's Vic Fontaine), J.G. Hertzler (DS9's Chancellor Martok), Robert O'Reilly (TNG, DS9's Chancellor Gowron), and Jeremy Bulloch (SW Episode II, V, VI's Boba Fett).
- Prices for general attendance (no autographs, either day) will be $20, Saturday attendance plus one set of autographs will be $50, and Sunday attendance plus one set of autographs will be $25.
- Art Asylum has acquired the ST toy license. Their first products will be seven-inch figurines of the Enterprise crew, and possibly also the crew from ST: Nemesis.
- Terminator 3 is in the works. It will be set 10 years after T2, where a 20-something John Conner teams up with an "Arnie-style" Terminator to defeat a female Terminator who is stronger than a T-1000.
- The Sci Fi Channel has confirmed that a "Children of Dune" six-hour miniseries will begin filming in April 2002 to be aired in 2003.
- No DVDs of SW Episodes IV-VI will be in the works until 2006 at the earliest, since there isn't much extra material (documentaries, behind-the-scenes, deleted scenes) available for inclusion right now.
- Buffy has some special episodes airing within the next few weeks: "Hush" (Emmy-nominated script) this week; and "The Body", with Buffy's mom, after that.

- Futurama finally starts its fourth season this Sunday, December 9, at 6 pm on FOX.

- TNG: "The Genesis Wave, Book Two," by John Vornholt (paperback)
- B5: Techno-Mage #3: "Invoking Darkness," by Jeanne Cavelos
- Finally, David has the TV Guide for December 8-14, which features one of four collectible Smallville covers.
- The Comm Officer reports that "Passage to Middle Earth," a behind-the-scenes special, will air this Sunday at 7 pm on the SFC. Willow will air immediately before it, from 4 to 7 pm.
- Chris A. reports that Austin Powers 3: Goldmember will begin filming this month.
- Also, on last week's episode of the Tick, the phrase "I so grok the mouth music," was said. On tomorrow's episode, the Tick discovers his "father" is Sesame Street's Grover.
- Bryce says that you can get a LotR skin and tune to related stations at www.winamp.com.
- Finally, Bryce reports that Sam Weaver has complimented the sousaphones in the BU basketball band on being very energetic.
