Committee Reports:
Recruitment and Relations Committee:
- Recapping our top story, Aaron is away, and David just got back.
- Gordo arrives at 10:20:54.
Quiz Bowl Committee:
- The tournament is still scheduled for April 20.
- [Item deleted for security {i.e., my} reasons.]
T-Shirt Committee:
Movie Committee:
- The results of an informal, nonbinding straw poll indicate that > 8 people want a movie this Friday.
- So we will have one. Movie night will start at 9:30 this Friday at the brick house.
- Gordo will bring the anime movie Princess Mononoke, and somebody will bring a sci-fi-type movie to watch first.
- The Captain's first official period of ineffectiveness occurs at 10:25 pm. {The hundred days must be over...}
- Bring your own chips to movie night, since we don't have any.
- There is soda, but please bring some quarters to help defray beverage costs.
No Report Committee:
- "It's peanut-butter-jelly time; it's peanut-butter-jelly time; it's peanut-butter-jelly time."
- No report.
- The Captain seriously considers splitting up the garrulous Monica, Carl, and Ryan.
Officers' Reports:
Communications Officer:
- The minutes are up - much earlier than usual!
- The early minutes receive applause.
- The minutes for the next few weeks may come out earlier than usual, since the Comm Officer is going to be busier for the next few Wednesdays. {Editor's Note: Well, I tried.}
- For anyone interested in such things, TV sci-fi writer Ron Moore has appeared in the Sci Fi News section of the minutes of the first meeting after April Fools' Day for two years running!
- Psi Phi admins (well, at least one of us) were sent a (probable) virus attachment in email today! It was left unopened and deleted (for security reasons).
- Ryan's STCCG Card of the Week is the I.K.C. K'Elric, from The Motion Pictures expansion. There is a sci-fi joke on the card, which David found rather quickly, as expected. {The joke is revealed below in Sci Fi News.}
Constable:
- A German copy of a Harry Potter book is exhibited. Some members are intrigued, while others hasten to control the direction of their projectile vomiting.
- Carl baps Ryan.
- Everything's under control.
Grand Nagus:
- The current balance is $306.08, same as last week.
- The first quarter of 2002 has ended, so we will be getting amazon.com money soon.
- The SBAM is complete, but got slightly wet as a result of flooding. Casualties include the Russian info sheet.
Chief of Operations:
First Officer:
- What is time? A talk in the library tonight, led by Dr. Roos of the physics department, attempted to answer that very question. (A conclusive answer was not reached.)
- This brought to the First Officer's mind a quote from Ford Prefect: "Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so."
Captain:
- We have no mail this week.
Old Business:
- The Springfield Star Trek convention is two weeks from this Saturday. Slated guests include Marina Sirtis, Aron Eisenberg, and Dick Gordon of the Apollo 12 mission, who was also the third man to walk on the moon.
- Admission at the door is $10 plus tax; this does NOT include autographs. However, you may be able to pay extra and get autographed photos.
- As of now, four Psi Phi members might be going.
- All business relating to GenCon is hereby postponed until further notice.
- In the all-school elections that took place Monday and Tuesday, Henrietta DuCluck got 9 votes beating out Jesus of Nazareth and "Eleventy-billion dollars!" This is disturbing, but not really surprising.
New Business:
- Marisa notes that the Anime Central con is coming up soon. It will be at the Hyatt O'Hare in Chicago.
Scifi News:
- Roswell is officially cancelled. (collective sigh)
- Spider-Man 2 is already in pre-development.
- Carl remarks, "Confidence is high; repeat, confidence is high."
- Available in various places on the web is the bootleg version of the Spider-Man promo, which still contains the WTC scenes.
- Information on "Detained," the episode of Enterprise airing April 24 and guest-starring Dean Stockwell and Christopher Shea, is up on the Enterprise website.
- On the main website, you can now find the cover art for the ST hardcover "The Last Roundup," detailing the final mission of the original crew before Generations.
- You can also find an excerpt from The Eugenics Wars, Book II.
- Landon reports that Sony is expanding Everquest for the PS2.
- cj says that Betelguese will be playing at Landmark Theater this week.
- George Lucas approved the final shot of Star Wars: Episode II this past Monday morning; the film is officially done.
- As a bad sign of worse things to come, InQuest Gamer voted the Wizards of the Coast version of SWCCG 6th on its top ten list of movie CCGs.
- Lyz reports that the bookstore is giving away free packages of Mint Skittles. She gives the candy a mixed review.
- Dr. Chapman of the English department has suffered a heart attack and undergone a quadruple bypass, so he will be retiring from Bradley. Psi Phi wishes him a speedy recovery.
- So, there will probably not be anybody to teach the sci-fi lit class for at least a year.
- cj reports that Jason X, the latest incarnation of the horror series, is crossing over (minus John Edward) into sci-fi, and is set aboard a starship.
- Lyz has heard rumors, apparently true, that Landmark Theater has been running the trailer for The Two Towers at its showings of The Fellowship of the Ring.
- News from the front: 60% of the first turn of the War on the SBAM has been fought. Germany's attempt to influence Spain was a total failure, leading to its takeover by the British.
- M&M's are getting another color! The choices for the new M&M color are the two losers from last time, purple and pink, plus a new impostor, aqua. {One can only speculate which color will get the ax to make room for the new one.}
- Finally, the joke on the I.K.C. K'Elric: The ship is commanded by Kang, who was played by Michael Ansara on TOS, DS9, and VOY. He also played Elric the technomage on Babylon 5. Ha ha!
