Minutes: Summarized and approved.
Notes:
- The First Officer hostilely declares control, and loses it just as quickly.
- The First Officer states that he will not be able to come to the party until 7:30, so either we'll have to wait half an hour or find another person to open U-Hall for us.
- Specific disorder ensues about vomit.
- Gordo arrives at 10:16.
- Julie exists.
Committee Reports:
Recruitment and Relations Committee:
Quiz Bowl Committee:
- The tournament made approximately $90 for the quiz bowl club.
- The motion to close the Quiz Bowl Committee, being long overdue, is made and passed.
T-Shirt Committee:
Movie Committee:
- Lyz will be in Iowa City this weekend, but a movie is still possible.
- Forget it - less movie = more war.
Bryce's Basement Committee:
- Chris Kaergard has volunteered to shuttle people back and forth for procuring foodstuufs on party night.
- We will definitely buy more beverages than we did last year. The drink list will include Coke, Cherry Coke, Pepsi (for David), Mountain Dew, Sprite, and Big-K Kiwi-Strawberry cooler.
- The pizza list has been finalized as follows: 1 ham/pineapple, 2 sausage, 2 pepperoni, and 2 cheese.
- Talk about acquiring a phone to order pizzas from is inconclusive. The pizzas will be ordered around 9:30, so people who come late will have a better chance of getting some.
- The motion to also order Shnooks' "really good frickin' sandwiches" in sub form is passed by a bunch.
- We should also try to buy chips and some sort of dessert items.
- The motion to buy a "veggie platter" passes, to Ryan's dismay.
- Bryce should be able to swing the TV and DVD player, and Lyz will bring connecting cables.
- The two senior-pick movies are The Wizard of Oz with accompanying soundtrack of either Antichrist Superstar or Dark Side of the Moon (Rachel), and Dr Strangelove (Anti-Joel). David will bring the VHS tape of the season finale of Futurama, so we will also need a VCR.
- Many, many other movies were suggested for the party, including the following:
- The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
- Labyrinth
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
- The Princess Bride
- Jason and the Argonauts
- Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
- Dude, Where's My Car? {Dammit, Ryan!}
- Regarding the previous item, Anti-Joel asks, "Can that be the 5 am movie?"
- Evolution
- Invader Zim
- So basically, we didn't decide. If you want to see a movie (try and find a way to at least tenuously relate it to science fiction, PLEEZE!), bring it to the party, and we'll vote on them there. {Arrgh! More democracy!}
- Finally, based on how warm it is projected to get in the basement, please bring a QUIET fan if you have one. {By, "fan," I mean "electric device that blows air around," not "some slobbering Shatner sycophant;" we've got enough of those already.}
No Report Committee:
- [The First Officer jingles his keys.]
- No report.
- Anti-Joel yells, "Look at me!" He receives applause. {The Comm Officer is too afraid to look...}
Officers' Reports:
Communications Officer:
- The minutes are up. Some minor corrections to the archives have been made.
- The Comm Officer requests that, upon leaving office, he be granted the title of Comm Officer Emeritus, to better allow him to help the new Comm Officer become familiar with his or her duties. The Captain grants this request.
- cj is not here tonight, because he is really, really sick. But last Monday was his birthday, and he got a very cool brithday gift - the entire Stanley Kubrick movie collection (from Spartacus onward) on DVD!
- Sometime last week, the Bradley Symphonic Winds took a field trip to go play a concert, which they never actually got to play. However, on the way there, some people noticed a sign on the bus: "Federal Regulations [middle part covered by masking tape] Prohibited by local law."
Constable:
- A shape-shifter pretending to be Bryce gives the report.
- Everything's under control.
Grand Nagus:
- David has money!
- The monies from amazon.com, .co.uk, .de, and .fr for the past quarter totalled $190.93.
- Psi Phi gets half of this, minus $10 for convention travel expenses, or $85.46.
- So, the current balance is $391.54.
Chief of Operations:
First Officer:
- The First Officer relates a joke about a pirate ghost who is walking around his ship with a steering wheel sticking out of his fly. When asked about it, the pirate responds, "Arrr! It's driving me nuts!"
- The comic strip containing the joke can be found in the archives at http://dragonboy.keenspace.com.
Captain:
- We have a very odd piece of mail this week.
- Mail:
- We have mail addressed to "Andrew Freiberger;" it's a Global Mag catalog. The Captain has no explanation for this.
- The Chief comes to the rescue, by remembering that Andrew is the technical contact for the Psi Phi domain name. {Further proof that David knows all...}
Old Business:
- Kenny, David, and Kevin attended the Star Trek convention in Springfield this past weekend. Sadly, Ryan could not attend, since he was learning how to "be my own butterfly."
- Kenny and David were only able to make the second half of the con, but they still got to see Aron Eisenberg and Marina Sirtis.
- Kevin and David both brought back nifty autographed items and other interesting tidbits, which will be available for viewing after the meeting.
- David's Ferengi Christmas Card has now been signed by all three DS9 Ferengi! Applause ensues.
- Once more unto the breach, dear friends! A few more nominations are entertained.
- Joel nominates himself for thief-er, nagus.
- Marisa nominates herself for constable.
- Rachel nominates herself for thief.
- Ryan nominates Joel for constable emeritus.
- Want to get elected? Show up.
- Joel remarks that sometimes you don't even need to show up - or run for office - to get elected.
- Also, all nominations for first officer are hereby deferred until next semester, so any monomaniacal freshmen that want the job can have a shot at it.
New Business:
- Julie wants to know if anyone knows where Nigel the Mouse is. Nobody does at present.
Scifi News:
- On June 7, season 4 of Farscape and season 6 of Stargate SG-1 begin on the Sci Fi Channel.
- Night Visions starts on SFC June 14.
- On June 16, the second season of Witchblade starts on TNT, and The Dead Zone begins on USA. This last, from Stephen King, stars Anthony Michael Hall and Nicole de Boer, and is executive-produced by Michael Piller.
- This Friday (May 3), the 90-minute season finale of Dark Angel will air on FOX from 7:30 to 9 pm. The episode was directed by James Cameron.
- Lexx has been cancelled. {NOOOOOOO!}
- John Nathan-Turner, the producer of Doctor Who from 1980-1989 (end of Doctor 4 through Doctor 7) died today.
- John Logan, the writer of Nemesis, may write a Romulan episode of Enterprise for next season.
- Men in Black 2 opens July 3.
- Scooby-Doo opens July 14.
- Halloween: Resurrection (this is number 8, folks) opens July 19. It will star Jamie Lee Curtis, Busta Rhymes, and Tyra Banks.
- Eight-Legged Freaks opens July 19. It's a monster movie with spiders {I never woulda guessed...}, starring David Arquette, and Kari Wuhrer from Sliders.
- ST: Insurrection will be shown on NBC May 18, from 8 to 10 pm.
- May 4, this Saturday, is "Free Comics Day." Go get some free comics!
- David has a copy of the Roswell book Little Green Men, by Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch.
- David has two copies of TV Guide. One has Spider-Man on the cover, while the other is devoted to the "greatest TV shows of all time."
- David also has the ST: Official Klingon/German Dictionary. Applause ensues.
- Finally, David has the full Lego version of Jango Fett, minus the backpack missile, which he lost when it "shot off somewhere."
- There are now 16 trailers for Attack of the Clones airing on TV! In addition to the 4 old ones, 12 new ones, each based on a separate character, have been disseminated over the airwaves.
- David reports that Matt Groening was misquoted last week regarding the "end of the Simpsons." What he actually said amounted to his conviction that "the show is closer to the end than to the beginning now." {So just don't expect more than 13 more seasons.}
- In other news, the reputed plot for the 300th Simpsons episode is supposed to involve a skateboarding contest between Homer and Tony Hawk.
- Ryan reports that STCCG is dead as we know it. Due to the monstrous complexity of the game, Decipher has decided to scrap the whole thing and start anew.
- Not surprisingly, Wizards of the Coast may be planning to kill off Magic at the same time.
- Marisa says that she found a catalog that was selling Farscape, Andromeda, and Earth: Final Conflict DVDs.
- Specific disorder ensues as various members begin to argue about "ADVs" and "regions."
Adjournment: 11:02:42 (boom-boom-boom)(jolpa'="transporter room")pm
