Welcome to EHS 120

"The University Experience" EHS 120 is designed to assist new students at Bradley University get acclimated. It is a course that will provide students with opportunities to interact with other new students, discuss challenging transitional issues, and learn about the myriad of resources and services at Bradley University. 

EHS 120 also helps students form a relationship with Bradley faculty and upperclass student co-instructors.  They will offer information about academic success, the history of Bradley University, the fraternity/sorority life, health services, and registering for next semester. 


What is EHS 120 all about?

The "University Experience" EHS 120 follows a common core of topics that include appreciation of diversity, issues of human sexuality, substance abuse, time management, study skills, and campus resources for student support and success. The course also includes a volunteer or community service opportunity within the Peoria area. EHS 120 requires class attendance and participation, successful completion of assignments including any papers and/or projects, completion of out-of-class requirements and activities, and attendance at out-of-class presentations.


The "University Experience" has been studied to measure its effect on first-year college students. These studies show that students who take EHS 120 are more likely to persist and graduate than students who do not take the course.  Students who successfully complete the one hour course also have higher first year GPAs than students who do not take the course.

EHS 120 will encourage you to appreciate and respect this diversity and will give you the opportnity to express your viewpoints as well as listen to others. We realize that you are making a major life adjustment by coming to college. EHS 120 will help you deal effectively with the many personal challenges you will face involving personal freedom and responsibility. Understanding the purpose for higher education, clarifying your values, and gaining a greater appreciation for cultural, personal, and racial diversity are key goals in EHS 120.

Course Goals

Provide opportunities and services for students to assist with the successful development and realization for their educational goals.

Contribute to increased student retention through enhanced student satisfaction with the Institution.

Assist students' understanding of the maturation changes they will experience and the roles they will assume as students.

Assist students with identification and clarification of personal values, especially those related to scholarship and lifelong learning.

Expose students to life-enriching educational activities, programs and opportunities available at the University.
