From Dr. Simon Petravick, professor of accounting

The last weekend in February was extremely busy for eight accounting majors who co-hosted the Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Midwest Regional Conference in Indianapolis with students from Eastern Illinois University. For two days our students greeted 260 guests, chaired five concurrent sessions, made two presentations, and participated in team building and professional development programs. Was there any room for big city sightseeing or shopping? Not on this trip. When they had some free time, it was usually spent rehearsing one of their upcoming speeches.

Most of the events went on as planned. However, when the presenters in one concurrent session came up 30 minutes short on material, our BU session chair, SUSANNAH BANEY, had to act quickly to initiate an audience discussion to fill the void.

By the end of the conference, the students had made some contacts with future speakers. They also picked up an idea for a financial literacy program that might be included in a freshman orientation course. However, the best part of the meeting was receiving the thanks of the regional director for a job well done.
