SHEILA CONSAUL ’80 submitted this Letter to the Editor:

Recently, during a rendezvous in Atlanta for another Bradley alum’s wedding, seven Bradley alums and one loyal spouse needed to kill some time before the wedding started. Unfamiliar with the area, they found a nearby shopping center sporting a restaurant/bar and decided to have a pre-wedding celebratory toast.

With it barely reaching happy hour on a Friday afternoon, the parking lot had just a couple of cars. The caravan parked, and the group headed into the establishment.  On the way in, one observant alum noticed that one of the few cars parked in front proudly displayed a “Bradley University Alum” license plate frame cuddling its Georgia tag. The irony of it all was not lost on the die-hard BU fans. Once inside, there was just one other table of customers in the bar enjoying the balmy Fall afternoon and their liquid libations.

The ever-observant alum could no longer stand the curiosity of the car with the Bradley identification and approached the group cautiously asking, “Does one of you happen to own the car with the Bradley University license plate out front?” Turning from his conversation with the others, a young, attractive man spun around to claim ownership. From that point forward, as all alums meeting in places far, far away from Peoria, we shared our mutual adoration of the Hilltop campus and reminisced about our fabulous college experiences. As we chatted further, we were amazed to hear the story first hand of BRAD COHEN ’96, the BU alum featured in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Front of the Class.  After almost an hour spent chatting with Brad — and nearly late for the wedding — we grabbed our personally autographed books and left the bar honored to have had a unique chance encounter with such an incredible fellow alum.

Lydia’s Lounge hosts Hallmark Hall of Fame viewing party

Students attended a viewing party in Lydia’s Lounge in University Hall on Sunday, December 4, for Front of the Class, a CBS Hallmark Hall of Fame movie about the life story of alumnus BRAD COHEN ’96. The movie is based on Cohen’s book of the same title, featuring his life with Tourette syndrome. A special pre-recorded welcome from Cohen was shown at the viewing party.
