In 1964 Robin, nine, is found hung. His killer is never identified, nor does his family recover. His father works out-of-town, while his mother lives in a cloud of grief, and his sisters grow up in limbo, watched over by four great-aunts. Though Harriet was only a baby when Robin died, he has becomre more real to her than the people around her. She decides to solve the crime and to exact retribution.
