Movie Information

NEW: An on-line chat with Michael Piller, author and co-producer of Star Trek: The Next Generation's third movie.

Title:

The title of the third Star Trek: The Next Generation(TM) motion picture has not been decided yet. One rumored title was "Heart of Darkness", and another is "Star Trek: Romulan". Both of these have been confirmed false, but one early draft had the title "Star Trek: Stardust". The movie changed quite a bit since then, so this will likely not end up as the final title.

Confirmed FALSE Guest Stars:

Release:

November 1998.

Filming:

To start March, 1998

Director:

NEW: Jonathan Frakes has been confirmed as the director. A Paramount press release has this to say:

Jonathan Frakes has been tapped to direct the next film in the popular Star Trek series, once again featuring the cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Frakes will also star in the film as Commander William T. Riker. Frakes' previous directorial effort led the film Star Trek: First Contact to the highest box-office grosses for any Star Trek film since Star Trek: IV: The Voyage Home in 1986. The film will be produced by Rick Berman from a screenplay by Michael Piller. Principal photography is set to begin in March of 1998.

OLD: Jonathan Frakes is vying for the director's chair, as is LeVar Burton. Frakes directed First Contact as well as several episodes of TNG, DS9, and Voyager. Burton has also directed for all three series.

Writer:

Michael Piller will be writing this movie.

Ron Moore, in why he did not want to write this one:
I just decided that it was too soon for me to start writing another TNG feature. I felt like I had just finished working on FC and if I was going to do a 3rd one that it would have to be better than FC and I wasn't ready to do that yet. Michael Piller will do a great job.

Plot points:

[to be updated]

"In future movies are individual members going to be more deeply involved in the story?"
Michael Dorn: "Yes, they are. Technically, how it's done... each movie role will feature the part of the crew that wasn't necessarily featured in the last movie. That way everyone gets a shot. After the success of First Contact, we were assured of a movie after that, and hopefully that will do well and more people will get a shot in that one."

Rick Berman: "It'll be more romantic and slightly funnier than the last couple of films. I've learned over the last few years that humor and sensuality are two of the things people like about Star Trek. If you take a look at the original series, you've got these babes in beehive hairdos and tiny miniskirts and Kirk jumping in and out of bed. I think I've been accused--and rightfully so--of being a little too PC over the years."
