The Chat Room is an area for real-time, unstructured conversations with users who are signed on at the same time.
You can create more than one chat room for specific kinds of conversation, but only one chat room can be up at a time.
Note: The most recent messages are at the bottom of the list. Under messages there is a box for you to type in your remarks. Click Add message for everyone to see your message. Click Clear to empty the box without posting your message.
When you hit the Enter/Return key on your keyboard, that also sends the message. Until everyone gets used to that, you may see more than one empty message.
You can see who, if anyone, is in the chatroom at the same time as you on the right side of your window. There is a column called Users in Chat. It is really boring to have a discussion with yourself, so if no one is listed in that column besides yourself, you won't have anyone respond in real time. When you are in a class, you can also tell who is in the Chat Room because a little blue bullet will appear next to their names in the users present box. Remember, however, that there is a slight time lag when people hop in and out of Chat where it will appear they're there, but they've left.
