Our Chapter, the Beta Pi Chapter of The Fraternity of Phi
Gamma Delta was founded as the Bradley Delta Colony on March
17, 1981. On that evening, twenty-four men pledged themselves
to an ideal of what they thought a fraternity should be. The
pledge education sessions were headed by Rho Phi Graduate
Brothers Bob Fretcher and Roe East, with the help from Field
Secretary Brian Dunster. The abbreviated Pledge Education
program came to a close on April 30th as twenty-three were
initiated into the Delta Colony.
The next few months were marked by a period of hard work,
organization and identity seeking by the Delta Colony members.
Through labors in these fields and other activities such as
the first Norris Pig Dinner on November 11, 1981, the identity
and reputation so steadfastly sought was achieved.
The Spring Semester of 1982 brought recognition of the Delta
Colony's academic excellence as they placed first in the overall
fraternity GPA competition with a cumulative average of 3.01.
Membership rose to 29 with the initiation of six pledges from
the Fall Semester. Interfraternity and athletic prominence
began to shine on the Colony as it was accepted as a full
member of the IFC on March 7th.
The summer months were highlighted by the attainment of one
of their most sought goals; the granting of their Charter
on August 10th, 1982, at the 134th Maple Leaf Ekklesia in
Toronto, Canada. The enthusiasm there was brought back to
the Colony, elevating her to yet greater heights during the
Fall Semester.
On November 12th, 1982, the Delta Colony members were pledged
into the Fraternity. The following day, November 13th, the
Fraternity Pledges were initiated into the 119th Chapter of
The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. That evening was hallmarked
by the installation banquet; an emotional climax for many
of the Brothers.
